Project Objective Through New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s Technical Assistance Program, Wendel Duchscherer performed an energy efficiency study for the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA). The goal was to identify and evaluate potential energy conservation measures that the NFTA could implement to reduce annual energy costs and operating expenses for the Metro Transit Center. In addition, the study identified facility improvement opportunities to improve patron and staff comfort, while reducing annual maintenance costs. Solution The energy efficiency study included implementation recommendations and associated energy savings for several energy conservation measures for the building’s lighting systems, boilers, air handling units, HVAC controls, electric motors, and building envelope. The results of the study are listed below. Study Results Estimated implementation cost: $484,523 Estimated annual energy and operation and maintenance savings: $92,514 Simple payback (without incentives) 5.2 years
