Energy Efficiency in Public Schools
Most school districts struggle with limited budgets. School leaders are faced with difficult decisions regarding where to spend available funds. For example, do you replace the aging heating system or expand the computer lab? Wendel can help!
The impetus behind the creation of Wendel Energy Services was to help a large urban school district improve their facilities with funding provided by the energy savings associated with the improvements. This is essentially the concept of Energy Performance Contracting. Rochester City Schools, in upstate New York, implemented $20M worth of “self funding” facility improvements with Wendel. Typical improvements and upgrades that can be implemented in K-12 buildings include: lighting, temperature controls, heating and cooling equipment, motors, variable frequency drives, and building envelope.
Wendel’s Engineers and Architects understand how important the classroom environment is to learning. Our energy efficiency projects provide higher quality lighting, more comfortable space temperatures, and proper ventilation. Since these improvements are “self funding” and do not require additional tax payer dollars, School Districts can feel confident that are making a financially sound investment.
