Rail Coordination

Many of our multi-modal projects include rail stations and therefore involve coordination with multiple rail agencies. Our current work on the Niagara Falls, NY Intermodal Transportation Center, demonstrates our expertise and ability in successfully interfacing and coordinating with multiple rail agencies and the State and Federal DOT. 

 

Over the past 9 years, Wendel has led the design and coordination of the new three phases Amtrak service center to be located at a new international border crossing at the Niagara Falls Whirlpool Rapids International Bridge. This involves coordination with the Federal Rail Administration (FRA), Amtrak, CSX Transportation (CSXT), Canadian National Rail (CN), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) Region 5 local administrator, the NYS DOT – Freight and Passenger Rail Bureau and the US DOT’s – Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Federal Rail Administration (FRA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). 

 

We have developed an excellent working relationship with representatives of each of our agency stakeholders including DHS and Amtrak representatives, the major stakeholder/tenants of this project. With them, we have successfully identified and resolved the operational design issues associated with construction of a new international rail station and border crossing, allowing efficient and cost effective management of the project through the final design, development and implementation of the project.    

 

Our understanding of rail agency as well as regulatory agency operations and requirements has allowed us to develop a long term working relationship with CSX Transportation (CSXT) and Canadian National Rail (CN) departments including the policy, operations and engineering departments. Our work has included design and coordination of track and signal system infrastructure associated with Station Projects.

 

Wendel has also performed rail agency coordination efforts for intermodal projects in Schenectady, NY; South Norwalk, CT; Greensboro, NC; Long Beach, NY; and Troy, MI.
