Transportation Planning and Management

Wendel offers a variety of public transportation planning skills and experience to assist our customers in the areas of policy, planning, financing and operations. Our lead personnel, Marlene Connor, Director of Public Transportation Planning, and Jim McLaughlin have over fifty years of combined experience working with public transit agencies and issues, both in the public and private sector. They maintain an up to date understanding of the planning and policy issues by proactively participating in American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) activities to ensure our customers are well informed of evolving policies that can then be incorporated into our planning efforts.

They have completed numerous traditional planning assignments, such as Comprehensive Operational Analyses, Transit Development Plans and both Short and Long Range Transit Plans. In addition, based on their range of experience from ADA paratransit and human service transportation coordination through all aspects of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) planning and implementation, they have completed a number of focused issue plans such as regional service development, organizational alternatives evaluations, fare and financial assessments, and development of regional call centers.

Most recently, they have worked with customers to incorporate many current planning concepts, such as livability and sustainability, state of good repair, complete streets, and mobility management, since, in today’s world, we strongly believe that public transportation can best succeed if it is viewed as an integral part of the communities it serves.

In addition to working closely with other Public Transportation facilities staff, our public transportation planning staff also communicates with and coordinates with other Wendel experts in the areas of Municipal Services, Land use Planning, Waterfront Development Planning, Comprehensive Community planning, Energy Efficiencies, and Health Care to offer a full service approach to the issues that affect communities. At Wendel we work with our clients to develop partnerships and opportunities that turn words such as livability and mobility management into implementable programs for their customers, due to our experience in all aspects of transit and paratransit planning.
