Energy Audits and Feasibility Studies

Wendel has gained extensive energy auditing experience via hundreds of completed energy audits. Our experience enables us to quickly and efficiently identify feasible energy conservation measures (ECMs). This allows us to focus our attention on real opportunities that can bring proven value to our customers. ASHRAE has established three “standard” levels of energy audits. Wendel’s licensed Professional Engineers, Certified Energy Managers and LEED Accredited Professionals are experts in all three levels.

ASHRAE Level 1 Audits are commonly known as walk-through audits. The intent of this level of audit is to determine if the potential for energy efficiency improvements exist. A simple letter report is typically provided that describes the opportunities for improvement.

ASHRAE Level 2 Audits are detailed energy audits. The intent of this level of audit is to give the building owner a list of energy conservation measures that includes detailed savings and implementation cost estimates. The level 2 Audit may include a recommendation for a “group” of energy conservation measures that appear to meet the owner’s payback criteria.

ASHRAE Level 3 Audits are also known as investment grade energy audits. The level 3 audit includes only the measures from the level 2 audit that the owner intends to implement. The savings and costs to implement the project are accurate enough that the owner can make a final decision regarding implementation. If the project is implemented using an Energy Savings Performance Contract, the results of a level 3 audit are guaranteed.
